Cedar Air Spade Project
A client of ours has a mature Cedar that was showing signs of low vigor, crown die back and water stress issues. Upon inspection we discovered that improper plastic landscaping tarp was laid down on the entire front yard. Heavy compaction was also present. Jackie, our PHC tech conducted an air spade coupled with a bio char nutrient soil additive topped with bark chips to assist with compaction.
Problem: Cedar showing low vigor, crown dieback, and water stress.
Diagnosis: Root zone covered with landscape fabric causing restricted gas exchange, poor water infiltration, and severe soil compaction.
Solution: Air spade excavation, biochar-enhanced soil amendments, and arborist wood chip mulch application.
Outcome: Improved soil conditions, reduced compaction, increased root zone function, and a healthier growing environment for long-term recovery.
